TFT battle simulator Set 18: test your teams before you play them

TFT battle simulator: which board wins? – free tool by TFTClimb

Which board wins – yours or your opponent’s? In the TFT battle simulator you set up two teams with items, stars and augments and watch the fight step by step: who moves where, whom they attack, when they cast and who deals the most damage. It uses the game data of Set 18 and the same combat rules as the game.

100fights for the win chance
30 sthen overtime starts
6roles decide mana and targeting

The rules the units fight by

  • Tanks first. If several enemies are equally far away – for example on the first attack – a unit prefers to attack the tank, and assassins last. That is why it pays to place your tanks so they soak up the first attacks.
  • Target: otherwise every unit attacks the nearest enemy – the one with the fewest steps to get in range. Until it reaches its target, it re-checks after every hex.
  • After crowd control: if a unit is stunned or knocked up, it keeps its target afterwards as long as it is in range. Riot changed this with Set 18 – before, units retargeted the closest enemy after a stun.
  • Mana: depends on the champion’s role (table below). Only tanks gain mana from damage taken. No mana while casting or while stunned.
  • Damage: base damage × crit × damage amp, reduced by armor or magic resist and damage reduction.
  • Overtime: from 30 seconds, damage and attack speed rise by 10% every second, while healing, shields and crowd control get weaker.

Roles: mana and targeting

Since Set 15 every champion has one of six roles. It decides how they gain mana and how often they become the target at equal distance.

Specialists follow their ability instead of the role: Caitlyn and Master Yi empower every 3rd attack, Kayle has no mana. Only Gnar’s rage is estimated like a fighter. Roles in Set 18 per topmeta.gg, rules per Riot’s patch notes 15.1.

How much stronger stars make a unit

StarsHealthAttack damage
★× 1× 1
★★× 1.8× 1.5
★★★× 3.24× 2.25

So a 3-star champion has more than three times the health of a 1-star. How stars and cost compare is shown in the hierarchy of power cheatsheet.

  • Test against your real opponent. Scout the board you lose to most and rebuild it as the enemy. That way you don’t test against any board, but against the one costing you health right now.
  • Two positionings, 100 fights each. Put your carry in the corner once and somewhere else once, and calculate the win chance each time – small position changes often matter more than an item.

What the simulator can’t do

  • Riot doesn’t provide exact numbers for every ability – where they are missing, strength is estimated by cost and mana cost.
  • Very special effects of some traits or augments may be simplified.
  • The results are guidelines: ideal for comparing two variants, not for predicting the exact outcome.

Battle simulator or DPS calculator?

The simulator lets two whole teams fight – with movement, targeting and enemies hitting back. If you only want to know which item build deals the most damage on one carry, the DPS calculator is quicker: it compares up to four builds of the same champion.

How to use the battle simulator

  1. Set up your team and the enemy team – or load comps straight from the tier list.
  2. Start the fight and skip forward or back.
  3. Click a unit to see its target, path, stats and next action.
  4. Run the fight 100 times to see both teams’ win chance.

FAQ

How accurate is the battle simulator?

It follows the known combat rules of TFT: targeting, movement, mana and overtime. Some ability strengths are estimated, so results are guidelines – good for comparing positioning and item spreads.

How does it calculate the win chance?

With “Win chance” the simulator runs the same fight 100 times with different randomness, e.g. crits, and counts how often each team wins.

Can I load comps from the tier list?

Yes. You load comps from our tier list straight into the simulator and adjust them there.

How long does a fight last?

Overtime starts at 30 seconds. If there is no winner after 45 seconds, the fight ends in a draw.
