Which item build deals the most damage? The TFT DPS calculator lets your champion fight enemies that don’t hit back and shows in a graph how the damage of up to four builds builds up. In Set 18 you can test 43 carries and damage units – with items, emblems, traits and shred and sunder from your team.

What goes into the calculation

  • Attacks: attack damage (AD) × attack speed, plus crit chance and crit damage.
  • Ability: how often the champion casts depends on mana – by role 7 (casters, plus 2 per second) or 10 per attack (fighters, marksmen, assassins), plus mana from items. Its strength scales with ability power (AP) or AD.
  • Damage amp: items like Deathblade or Giant Slayer increase every hit by a percentage.
  • Enemies: the targets’ armor and magic resist reduce the damage – more on that below.

Armor, magic resist, shred and sunder

Armor reduces physical damage, magic resist (MR) reduces magic damage. The enemy takes 100 / (100 + armor) of the damage. Sunder lowers armor by 30%, shred lowers MR by 30% – the tankier the target, the more it helps.

Enemy in the calculatorHealthArmor / MRDamage dealtwith sunder/shred
Backline8003077 %83 %
Frontline16007059 %67 %
Tank300015040 %49 %

Shred and sunder don’t stack – if another unit on your board already applies sunder, your own Last Whisper adds nothing for that.

Pro tipClaudio „CrazYSlayt“
  • Compare at the right second. Items that ramp up win long fights, instant items win short ones. Look at your builds at 10 and at 25 seconds – if the winner changes, your board decides: if your carry dies fast, take the build that leads early.
  • No double sunder or shred. If another unit on your board already applies sunder or shred, switch it on above – the effect doesn’t stack. Often a build without Last Whisper or Void Staff wins then.
  • Test against the right enemy. Your carry wins most fights by getting through the frontline. So test against “Frontline” or “Tank”, not just “Backline”.

Total damage or damage per second?

“Total damage” shows the summed-up damage – so you see which build leads at the deciding second. “Damage per second” shows how hard a build hits right now: items like Guinsoo’s Rageblade or Kraken’s Fury climb over time, items like Deathblade work from the first second.

How to use the DPS calculator

  1. Pick a champion and its stars. Tanks are left out on purpose – they are not built for damage.
  2. Put together up to four item builds, emblems included. The builds from our tier list are pre-filled.
  3. If another unit on your board already applies shred or sunder, switch it on.
  4. Under “Detailed” you set trait tiers and the enemies – backline, frontline or tank and how many stand next to each other.
  5. Set the second you want to compare up to and read the damage in the table.

FAQ

How accurate is the DPS calculator?

It uses the engine of our battle simulator: base stats and items come from Riot, ability strength is estimated where Riot provides no numbers. That works well for comparing builds; the absolute numbers are guidelines.

Do traits and emblems count?

Yes. Under “Detailed” you set the active tier for each of the champion’s traits. Emblems in a build add their trait. Augments are not included.

Why is the result an average?

Crits are random. That is why the DPS calculator runs every build 24 times and shows the average.

What is the difference between shred and sunder?

Sunder lowers the enemy’s armor, shred lowers their magic resist – each by 30%. So sunder helps physical damage and shred helps magic damage.

Why are some champions missing?

Tanks are not built for damage – the DPS calculator only lists carries and damage units.
